Aussprache: Achtung!

• Greenwich [ˈgrenɪdʒ] – das „w“ hört man nicht.
• cupboard [ˈkʌbəd] – das „p“ spricht man nicht.
• wrong [rɒŋ] – das „w“ spricht man nicht.
• listen [ˈlɪsn] – das „t“ spricht man nicht.
• eight [eɪt] – „gh“ ist stumm.
• Mrs spricht man [ˈmɪsɪz], Mr spricht man [ˈmɪstə].
• Unbetont klingen are und to ganz kurz: [ə] und [tə].
• How old are you? – beim Sprechen zusammenziehen, fast wie ein Wort.

Regeln zum Merken

• a wird zu an vor a, e, i, o, u: a cat, a dog – aber an animal, an idea.
• Unregelmäßige Mehrzahl: one mouse – two mice. people ist schon Mehrzahl.
• too (auch) steht am Satzende: Are you ten too, Luke?
• own immer mit my, your, his, her …: This is my own room.
• Im Bild = in the picture (nicht: on).
• im Bad = in the bathroom · in der Badewanne = in the bath.
• there is + eine Sache, there are + mehrere: There's a dog. There are two cats.
• Mum, Dad, Uncle, Grandma groß nur als Name: Hello, Mum! / Uncle Jack – aber: Luke's mum.
• Sprachen und Herkunft immer groß: English, German.
• Britische Schreibweise: colour, favourite (mit u).
